Wise words of encouragement from the Social Development Officer, Nyatike sub-county

Osiep Nyathi continues to engage its partners to continually improve the quality of its interactions with the students, teachers, and the local community. The latest engagement involved the Nyatike sub-county social development officer, who was impressed with our annual progress report during the renewal of the groups' registration certificate. According to the development officer, most groups are focused on income-generating projects for for-profit purposes. However, he was excited that we are among the few not-for-profit organizations in the sub-county. He acknowledged the role of community-based organizations towards the realization of the country's vision 2030. Further, the officer said that few organizations are focusing on mentorships and improving girls' welfare by distributing sanitary pads. Therefore, he said that we are on the right path towards improving the education standards in the area and increasing the transition rate from primary to secondary schools.

The key points from the discussion with the SDO include constant engagement with the local community without assuming that we are their savior. The community is our most valuable partner. Additionally, we should aim at trying new strategies for resource mobilization by seeking cooperation and partnerships with other not-for-profit organizations operating in the area, such as World Vision, Save the Children, and USAID. These organizations have enhanced experience and knowledge on how to navigate the challenges facing the communities and students. Therefore, we committed ourselves to regular engagement with his office to share ideas and strategies for improving the lives of the sub-county residents.
